Santorini Taxi: Pre-Booked Private Rides at Fixed Prices

Santorini has fewer than 40 licensed taxis for more than two million visitors a year. At the airport and Athinios Port, that means queues, cash-only drivers and fares you only learn at the end.

My Santorini Transfer works like a taxi that is already waiting for you. Book once, get a fixed price, and your driver meets you with a name sign at arrivals, the port exit or your hotel door.

Santorini Taxi: The Quick Answer

Quick answer: Santorini runs on roughly 35 to 40 licensed taxis. There is no Uber or Bolt, and taxis cannot be booked in advance. In summer, waits at the airport and Athinios Port can reach 60 minutes.

A pre-booked private taxi removes the queue. Prices start from €40 from the airport to Fira and €30 from Athinios Port to Fira. The fare is fixed at booking, with luggage, waiting time and child seats included.

The Taxi Rank Reality

How Taxis Work in Santorini

Santorini taxis are licensed and metered, but there are very few of them. Roughly 35 to 40 cars serve the whole island, and the number has barely changed in years.

That supply runs into three pressure points:

  • Santorini Airport (JTR): several flights land within the same hour, and the rank empties in minutes.
  • Athinios Port: one large ferry can unload hundreds of passengers onto a single, short taxi line.
  • Fira late at night: after dinner and sunset, demand peaks while most drivers have finished their shifts.

Most drivers prefer cash. The final fare can include night, luggage, port and holiday surcharges. A standard taxi also takes 4 passengers at most, so families and groups often need two cars.

None of this is a problem when your driver is already booked.

How Our Pre-Booked Santorini Taxi Works

We are a licensed private transfer company. For you, it works like a taxi that shows up before you do.

  1. Book online in two minutes. Choose your pickup point, destination and vehicle. The price is fixed at booking.
  2. Get your driver’s details. We send the driver’s photo and vehicle details on WhatsApp before you land or dock.
  3. Meet your driver. Arrivals hall at the airport, the exit at Athinios Port, the top of the cable car in Fira, or your hotel lobby.
  4. Ride direct. No shared stops and no meter. We take you to the door, or to the closest point a vehicle can reach in Oia, Fira and Imerovigli.

We track your flight or ferry. If it runs late, your driver waits at no extra cost.

Tip: Leaving the island? Book your departure taxi when you book your arrival. Early ferries and flights are exactly when the rank is empty.

Where You Need a Taxi in Santorini

Three moments cause almost every taxi problem on the island. These are the rides we handle most:

Santorini Airport Taxi

The airport rank is the longest queue on the island in summer. Your driver waits inside arrivals with a name sign, even if your flight is late.

Private airport taxi to Fira from €40, to Oia from €60.

Athinios Port Taxi

Ferries unload hundreds of passengers at once onto a narrow quay. We track your ferry and meet you at the port exit, then drive the switchback road for you.

Private port taxi to Fira from €30, to Oia from €50.

Night Rides and Between Villages

Late dinners in Oia or Fira, sunset spots, wineries and beaches. Taxis thin out after dark, and buses stop early outside summer.

Book a fixed-price ride between any two points on the island, day or night.

No rideshare apps operate on the island. Our guide Is There Uber in Santorini? explains why, and the Santorini bus guide covers the cheapest alternative.

FAQ: Santorini Taxi

How many taxis are there in Santorini?

Santorini has roughly 35 to 40 licensed taxis for more than two million visitors a year. In summer, that means queues at the airport, Athinios Port and Fira, especially when several flights or ferries arrive together.

A street taxi from the airport costs about €25 to €35 to Fira and €35 to €45 to Oia in daytime, plus night, luggage or holiday surcharges. A pre-booked private taxi with My Santorini Transfer is fixed at €40 to Fira and €60 to Oia, with waiting time, luggage and child seats included.

Local taxis work on a first-come basis from the rank and rarely take advance bookings. To guarantee a car, book a pre-booked private taxi. Your driver is assigned before you arrive and waits for you with a name sign.

Taxis are required to accept cards, but in practice most drivers on Santorini prefer cash. With My Santorini Transfer you can pay by card, cash or prepay online when you book.
